Even before they are born, babies can hear sounds. Sharing books is one of the best and easiest ways for parents to bond with their babies, from the earliest moments.
Our research shows that younger parents are comparatively less likely to read to their babies, particularly during the very early stages. We know that many can face challenging circumstances such as social isolation, poverty, or lack of confidence.
This Christmas, we want to ensure every baby enjoys stories and rhymes, regardless of their circumstances.
By supporting our Christmas Appeal, you will be helping to gift a copy of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's classic picture book, The Snail and the Whale, to 1,000 teen parents across Scotland who are expecting a baby. They will also receive support to start them on their reading journey to ensure they have the best start together. Following a pilot of this approach, we know that this encouragement can make a real difference in the early stages of a childs life.
